Keeping it Local

Transforming Care through Person Centred Housing Solutions

This series of events, held in October through June 2015, were a follow on from the Winterbourne View Joint Improvement Programme housing events. The events were funded by the Department of Health voluntary sector development fund as part of the Housing & Support Alliance 'Keeping it Local' programme.

Purpose of events

The events were designed to bring commissioners and housing providers together, this way they could share the findings of the 3 year Keeping it Local programme and the Delivering Person Centred Housing regional working groups finding practical ways forward to deliver the housing needed in the Transforming Care programme. The events, held in London, Newcastle, Bristol and Birmingham, shared examples of how capital has been used in the DH housing capital programme.

The agenda aimed to be practical, and covered some of the issues acting as barriers in the working groups such as;

  • Getting capital investment into housing & social investment models
  • The Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards & tenancy agreements
  • NHS property assets
  • Getting housing expertise within assessment and planning
  • Housing design to increase effectiveness & affordability
