Commissioners

This page tells you how we work with social care and health commissioners. The H&SA supports commissioners to:
  • commission housing and support services that give people with learning disabilities real choice and control over their lives
  • understand what is possible in housing and support
  • develop a wider range of housing and support choices - in particular to include low-cost and low-level supports that enable people to live more independently, including assistive technology, community supports and support tenants
  • form partnerships and working relationships with housing providers to expand choice in housing
  • develop local strategies for opening up real housing for people with learning disabilities
  • work with people with learning disabilities and families so that information and knowledge about housing and support is shared
  • work with providers to decommission and reprovide housing and support
  • develop housing and support that meets the needs of people who have the most complex housing needs so that they can stay in their own community.

We do this by:

  • offering membership for commissioners that includes information, advice and support
  • providing briefings, factsheets and resources that keep members informed and up to date
  • offering training, workshops and consultancy.
