Councils

The H&SA helps council housing departments to:

  • make their application processes accessible for people with learning disabilities
  • make sure choice-based lettings schemes work for people with learning disabilities
  • provide and signpost to a range of housing options for people with learning disabilities
  • develop local strategies to meet the housing needs of people with learning disabilities.

Housing associations, charitable landlords and private landlords

The H&SA can help these housing providers by:

  • advising and consulting on the development of a range of housing options for people with learning disabilities, including home ownership, familiy-funded and privately funded options
  • providing information on accessible tenancies, mental capacity and tenancy
  • advising on funding for housing
  • supporting organisations in developing strategies and plans to create housing for people with learning disabilities
  • supporting them to ensure tenancies are within the legal and regulatory framework and give tenants real choice and control over their lives.

H&SA membership for housing providers offers: unlimited telephone and email support; shares templates for accessible housing information; training, consultancy and development.
