This service is free to H&SA members.

We can help with most things about housing, support and rights for people with learning disabilities, including:

  • supported living and supported housing
  • home ownership options
  • renting privately
  • family investment in housing
  • extra care
  • funding for housing
  • support options
  • welfare benefits
  • rights to housing and support
  • tenancies
  • mental capacity.
  • We can book appointments with a specialist advisers, if your enquiry relates to their specific area of specialism and they will call you back at an arranged time.

Is there anything the Advice Service can’t do?

  • The Advice Service can’t advise you on legal issues since our advisers aren’t legally trained. However, in certain circumstances we have access to legal advisers who can provide general legal advice. If you require specific and/or individual legal advice, we can provide you with the details of solicitors  who may be able to help you.
  • We can’t advise you on medical issues since our advisors aren’t medically trained. However where possible we will signpost you to an organisation that can.
  • The Advice Service can’t take on your case or act as your advocate. But again, if this is needed, we will try to help you find an advocate.
  • We can’t offer counselling services since none of our advisers are qualified counsellors. However once again, we can assist you to find someone who can help.

Please remember, that if we can't help you with something straightaway, we will get one of our advisors to contact you as soon as possible.

H&SA Quality Standards

These are our Quality Standards with respect to the Advice Service

Good Quality Advice, Information, Training & Consultancy H&SA Advisors will give it's members accurate and up to date advice, information, training and consultancy on housing, care and support and the rights and money associated with housing and support for people with learning disabilities. Information will always be provided in formats that are suitable for the needs of those who use the service.

A Responsive Service
H&SA aims to respond fully to email and telephone queries from it's members as soon as possible and in no more than 24 hours. Advisors will provide links and signposting information where needed.

A Respectful Service
  All clients of H&SA are treated with respect, privacy and dignity and are not discriminated against because of disability, ethnicity or sexuality.

Privacy and confidentiality
All queries to the H&SA Advice service will be treated confidentially unless we have concerns about the safety of a vulnerable person, in which case we will make a report to the relevant Adult Safeguarding Board. Please see this page to view H&SA and Confidentiality.

About the Person
H&SA Advisors will always take a person centred and rights based approach to advice, training and consultancy in housing and support for people with learning disabilities.

Meeting the needs of organisations  
H&SA Advisors will aim to deliver training to meet agreed outcomes with the client before each contract commences and will monitor and evaluate all training and consultancy that it provides.
